2019 Federal Budget
The end of the year is approaching, and while that might
mean holiday music and vacations, it also means all eyes are on the federal
budget. If Congress and the White House
don’t strike a deal, nine federal departments and several smaller agencies will
run out of money and shut down at midnight on Friday. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell,
R-Ky., has proposed a bill that would fund the government through February
8. Senate Minority Leader Charles
Schumer, D-N.Y., and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., both said
Democrats would support the measure.
Hopefully sensible policy will reign this holiday season. As McConnell
said, no one wants to end the year the way it began – with a
government shutdown.
